Trust awarded new Free School in Gloucester

New Church of England school for Quedgeley

It has today been announced by the Department for Education that a new Church of England free school for Quedgeley has been given the go-ahead.

The new Church of England Primary Academy will open in September 2017 and will be part of the Diocese of Gloucester’s Academy Trust, which currently runs nine other academies.

The Bishop of Gloucester, the Right Revd Rachel Treweek said. “This new Academy will offer children excellent educational provision, transforming lives within a caring and supporting Christian ethos.

“Our vision is to enable human flourishing, nurture the social, moral, spiritual and cultural development of pupils, as well as maximising the opportunities for them to succeed academically and celebrate the intrinsic value of every person.”

The opening of this new Academy is part of a bold vision by the Church of England to be the largest single provider of schools and academies in England. Speaking at the recent General Synod the Bishop for Education, Stephen Conway, said. “The free schools programme is a unique opportunity for the Church of England to renew and enhance its contribution to the education of our nation’s children.”

Rachel Howie, Chief Executive of the Diocese of Gloucester’s Academy Trust said. “I am enormously proud of my team; they have worked incredibly hard to put this successful bid together. Children are at the heart of everything we do and this is an exciting time for us all as we continue to grow as a multi academy trust.

“We would like to thank everybody who took part in the public consultation, shaping our vision for the future of the school.”
