Effective Academy Governance

Local Governing Bodies come together for Effective Academy Governance course

In partnership with Ease Training, the governors from Church of England academies came together at Hardwicke Church of England Primary Academy and The Pavilion, Cheltenham, for two half-day training events which focusing on effective academy governance. Delegates were introduced to the roles and responsibilities of Trustees and Local Governing Bodies and spent time reflecting on the strategic nature of governance, including how to effective work with senior leadership teams. Delegates were also introduced to the National Governor’s Association’s framework for Self Evaluation. The DGAT solicitors and auditors, Veal Wasbrough Vizard and Bishops’ Fleming also led sessions on legal and financial accountability whilst the Head of Business and Finance from DGAT briefed governors in relation to increased employment costs and procurement.

Working in small groups, governors had the opportunity to work through a number of scenarios in order to explore a range of appropriate responses.
